Financial Health & Literacy Support Services
Individualized Counselling: Our professional counsellors help you create a personalized plan based on your financial profile to address your debt stress. We also provide preventative education counselling including budgeting and money management strategies. This program is subsidized by The United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin.
Starting Over Program: A financial literacy program designed for women who have experienced abuse. 3-6 individual sessions are provided at no cost to the client. Topics include budgeting, understanding credit ratings and scores, managing debt, emotional implications of money and its influence on decision making, and communication strategies. This program is fully funded by The United Way Guelph Wellington Dufferin.
Debt Management Program: A program for people having difficulty meeting their unsecured consumer debt obligations. Negotiations are made with creditors, interest relief is requested, and debts are consolidated into 1 payment.
Bright Futures Scholarship Program: The Bright Futures scholarship is a program designed to help low to modest income families save for their child’s education through a shared savings program. Families are asked to save a minimum of $56 per month for 6 months for a total of $336 per year. The scholarship donor will double the contribution by providing up to $667 per year for up to 3 years provided the family continues to meet the eligibility criteria. In addition, the family will also receive government contributions to the RESP as defined by the Canada Learning Bond and/or Canada Education Savings Grant.
School Program: Family Counselling & Support Services for Guelph-Wellington is committed to strengthening the community through various counselling and support services for individuals, couples, and children. With regards to financial literacy, FCSSGW offers school programs that educate children about financial planning and personal finances, helping to improve their skills and confidence.
3rd Party Counselling and EAP: Businesses and organizations who have staff experiencing financial distress may contact our organization to arrange counselling for their employees to assist with alleviating debt pressure.
