Distress Line Lead

Family Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington is a multi-service Family Service agency providing support services to individuals, families, and children. FCSSGW is committed to strengthening individual, couple and family life; those dealing with physical, sexual and emotional abuse; trauma; helping people learn money management and strategies; supporting people with developmental challenges and those caring for them; and more.

With its acquisition of Community Torchlight, FCSSGW will be assuming distress line call-in and call-out programs supporting our community. The continuity of the telephone support services enhances FCSSGW’s capabilities to provide integrated and seamless services to the community.

FCSSGW is seeking a Distress Line Lead to join our team of professionals based in Guelph, Ontario. You will be working a member of the Leadership Team, as we journey into this exciting future.

The successful candidate will ensure a quality holistic approach to client care consistent with FCSSGW’s Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan.

Key Accountabilities

  • Champion Distress Line programs in the community, through outreach, communication and fostering awareness of the availability of this service
  • Engage in direct client service on distress line as required when volunteers are unavailable
  • Provide intake and coordination of call-out clients
  • Responsible for providing supportive and administrative supervision to Distress Line programs including:
    • day-to-day supervision of personnel of the program,
    • ensuring job-related training for new volunteers,
    • scheduling and planning to ensure adequate phone line coverage to achieve described targets
  • Participate in recruitment of qualified personnel
  • Ensure the timely preparation of accurate reports for submission as required for funders
  • Support a healthy workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in a social service field
  • Demonstrated volunteer management experience and coaching to foster success
  • Five or more years of experience in a similar role/environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operation and use of a computer, related technologies and software required for the role(s) (MS Office, iCarol)
  • Ability to work flexible hours (including evenings and Saturdays)
  • Demonstrated ability to work sensitively with people from many cultural backgrounds, levels of ability and income levels
  • This position requires the candidate to produce a Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the agency prior to the commencement of employment
  • Travel, requiring valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and road-worthy vehicle

Remuneration includes full Group Extended Health and Dental Benefits and Group RRSP program.

Clinical Therapist

Family Counselling and Support Services for Guelph-Wellington (FCSSGW) is seeking applications for a full time Clinical Therapist to serve residents of Guelph and Wellington County. This position is primarily based at the agency’s Guelph location.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide assessment, counselling, and/or education to individuals, couples, families and groups.
  • Be comfortable leading a group, a workshop, a project, or a program.
  • Provide consultation with or supervise interns, volunteers, and/or employees of community partners, when necessary.
  • Complete client documentation in a timely and professional manner.
  • Communicate with Justice personnel (Crown, Probation and Parole) as needed.
  • Ensure a holistic, quality approach to client care consistent with FCSSGW’s Mission, Vision, Values and Strategic Plan.
  • Ability to provide services in a second language (in addition to English) will be considered an asset.
  • Available to work flexible hours (evenings and/or weekends), required.

Qualifications

  • A Masters-level degree in Social Work or Psychotherapy.
  • Registration in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario,
  • CRPO approved Clinical Supervisor, or can meet the requirements for approval at time of hire.
  • 5 years counselling experience in a trauma-informed human service agency or counselling/psychotherapy setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of therapeutic theories as they relate to domestic violence and trauma.
  • EMDR training an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of adult learning.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operation and use of a computer, related technologies and software required for the role(s).
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of the social service, justice, and health sectors an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license, appropriate automobile insurance as required by FCSSGW.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Caseworks or other similar Client Management Software an asset.
  • This position requires the candidate to produce a Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the agency prior to commencement of employment.
